Rachel participated in a reading of A Rebel Prayer by Eloise Govedare and Aleksandra Weil, NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing students. Based in Putin’s modern day Russia, A Rebel Prayer is a musical about 13 year old Nikita whose father was murdered for his political views. When Nikita finds a mask resembling that of Russian punk collective Pussy Riot, she begins a fantastical journey of empowerment and rebellion. In the course of her journey, she discovers the truth about her father’s death, and must decide whether freedom should be defended, at any cost.
Rachel will be playing the role of Beth Spencer in the upcoming production of Merrily We Roll Along at the Astoria Performing Arts Center. The rarely done Stephen Sondheim musical tells the story of how a composers idealism and friendship are corrupted by success. The story is told backwards starting with the disillusioned present and ending with his optimistic college years. The show will be directed by APAC's artistic director Dev Bondarin, choreographed by Misha Shields, and with musical direction by Ming Aldrich-Gan.
Rachel is thrilled to be returning to APAC, an organization she holds near to her heart after having performed in 2010's Children of Eden and 2011's The Human Comedy.
Rachel took part in a closed industry reading of The Calico Buffalo, playing the female leading role of Willa-Mah. Based on the children's book by EJ Stapleton and with music by Grammy-winner Peter Stopschinski, The Calico Buffalo tells the tale of young prince buffalo born covered with the markings of a calico kitten, catapulting the entire buffalo nation into the adventure of a lifetime. Under the direction of Craig J. George, the reading took place in early January at Ripley Grier Studios.
Rachel is thrilled to be joining the 2014 National Tour of Irving Berlin's White Christmas! She'll be understudying the leading role of Betty Haynes, as well as playing the role of Tessie. She'll be revisiting some of the cities she played on the South Pacific tour, as well as some new locations to check off the list! The show will be directed and choreographed by Broadway legend, Randy Skinner.
Hope to see you a performance!
